The West of Yore Hunt was formed in 1931/2 by Mr Edward Burrill to hunt the Wednesday country of the Bedale. From 1931-35 Mr. Burrill hunted this country two days a week with his own hounds, kennelled near Masham.
In 1962, Rt Hon James Ramsden MP restarted the hunt as a private pack on his retirement from the Bedale Joint Mastership and the following year he was joined as Joint Master by Mrs Nancy Staveley, one of very few women huntsmen at the time. In 1969 it became a subscription pack. Subsequently, the pack was hunted by Captain Malcolm Sherwin (1971-77), Mr Michael Abrahams (1977-81) and Mr Tom Ramsden (1981-2001)
